Make nice looking RPG maps easily.

RPG Map is a tabletop oriented map editor
with the keep it clean & simple philosophy in mind.

About

RPG Map is a tool I’ve built to make maps for my tabletop RPG sessions, with my friends. It’s born from the fact that most existing tools were either looking bad or were simply overly complex to use.

My approach is to make an easy to use tool to create beautiful maps quickly.

You can still access the old Flash-based version (source code available on GitHub)

From 2013 to 2020, the “Cthulhu manor” demo map shows the evolutions of RPG Map

I adore this and only have a few questions – Is there any way to select/copy multiple things? Like to duplicate rooms for a hotel/motel? I also have run into an issue that when I tell it to export without icons, it still includes the icons – am I doing something wrong?

This website is the backbone of my DnD maps. I am so glad it exists. Also, Dead Cells rocks! Thanks for all you do.

this is a great tool. Realy user friendly and clean, though it lacks a few customization options. it would be great if you could import custom floor textures and have the option to add different types of walls (or rather color) in to the same theme (like a brown wooden wall for a shed, and a white wall for a house on the same map). But else i really liked what was possible to make in a little while.

Is there any feature to make it so tiles that you place don't go half into the stranding squares?
I'm trying to do some hedge like making but it's near impossible at the moment.
If not maybe something to think about adding. Could be a toggle or hold [specific] key to do so.

Do you plan to implement a way to underlie images? I'd love to be able to put an image under the map with a little transparency so i can draw over it

    • Sébastien Bénard:

Hi! You can move an image to the background location by editing it's settings (ALT-click on it). Opacity isn't supported yet, but it should come in a later version :)

I should probably have mentioned the problem with Foundry was hex grids being difficult to size correctly to align with Foundry's grid, and that I've been using the square grids instead for narrative scenes.

    • Sébastien Bénard:

Yes, hex grids can be drawn in various shapes & rotations, depending on the app. I'll have a look at Foundry to see if I can adapt to their format.

  9. digitaliron:

This is just the editor I was looking for and it fits with the look of my campaign really well! The only major complaint I have is hexes *really* not working well, at least on FoundryVTT which is what I use, but with grids for narrative scenes it is absolutely lovely.

Well, I don't have 12 dollars now (I live in Brazil, and we're living a crisis), but when I get it, I will donate for sure.

  12. Mike:

Is there any way to mask certain things (like hidden doors, unexplored areas, etc) from players? Or do I have to generate a version with everything and a version that only shows non-hidden things?

    • Sébastien Bénard:

No, that's something I'd love to do, but didn't figure out how to implement it

I would like to have the dynamic light generated with image as well. Is it possible?

    Thank you.

Is there plans to make it support Foundry VTT?

I like how your generator work but it is hard to work on a tablet since there is no mouse. Is there a chance for an Android App or some way too close the pop up in the html5 option?

I hope this one works, because all of the other apps I have looked at have not.

RPG Map Editor 2 Is great!!! I love using this for my dnd campaigns, and I haven't crashed once! Although it says it's windows or html only, I actually got this working with Lubuntu using WINE, so you could assume it should work with most Ubuntu or even Linux systems! It was even relatively easy (Looking at you, Cockatrice)

This looks fantastic. If I find I can get some use out of it, I'll be happy to donate. That's for making it available.

Hi! I am loving your map maker and its making my D&D games super fun to prepare. However, I have a question regarding your custom import option. I have yet to figure out how or if I can even delete custom designs, my library is getting full with failed designs, and I'd like to clear it up.

Anyways, that aside I absolutely love this app! Anyone reading this, I highly recommend you use it, regardless of my little hiccup. ^^

I really enjoy using this map maker. It's my first time running a campaign so having the ability to create maps from the get go so quickly and available for change has made my life easier (so I don't have to search for pre-mades) and alot more complex (because I get lost in the editor because all the ideas I want to do).

Thank you for this wonderful tool! I was able to give some money to download as I had just downloaded it for nothing before. Keep up the great work!
