ANA Map will no longer be updated
This version won’t be updated anymore. You can switch to the new RPG Map 2 which gets rid of Flash and implements many features requested by users. The source code of the original ANA Map is available on GitHub.
About the old Flash version
IMPORTANT : you need a Flash Player for this version to work. So far it has been tested on Firefox 59 and Chrome. For Chrome, you may need to click this link for it to work and choose “Allow” when asked to run flash. If nothing shows, there might be an issue with the Flash player: you should check if it’s enabled and not blocked by any third party extension.
For the last 20 years, I’ve been playing tabletop RPGs with friends on a very regular basis. I’ve spent a huge amount of time writing scenarii and missions. I did it with traditional pen & papers at first, and with Google Docs afterwards.
Problem is: it’s ok to write missions with Google Docs, until it comes to drawing the map of, say, a dungeon in Dungeon & Dragons, or a haunted house in Call of Cthulhu. Most of the dedicated tools are either:
- Old: like with a Win95 interface with almost zero attention to ergonomic
- Bloated: the tools allows EVERY single thing related to drawing a map, and therefore, is too complicated for my simple needs.
- Ugly: the tool uses lots of terrible textures where I just want to draw walls and doors.
For some times now, I’ve been using Photoshop to paint my maps. But let’s face it. It’s a great tool, but it has not been designed for that purpose. And it’s not free.
So I’ve decided to work on my own tool, with the sacred KiSS principle in mind (Keep it Short & Simple).
It would be nice if it had a bucket tool. For the rest, pretty much satisfied.
Can't rotate =/ i'm sad about it
I really like this tool! makes mapping very simple and straightforward. The only problem I've had is that when you move the viewpoint too far from where your working all the walls disappear… leaving floating door and furniture.
I was looking for something like this. Awesome!!
cool
Thank you RedBeard! Thanks so much for saying "«For those that it's not working for – the newer web browsers (at least with chrome) auto-block Flash Player. Click the yellow link on the top right for flash player, it'll ask permission to run, hit 'yes' or 'accept' or w/e it is, and it'll run.»"! Now it works again!
The way deleting works is really inconvenient, why not just make it left click again to delete furns like you do with walls.
This is AWESOME!!! You just made the hardest part of module writing become the funnest, best, and step that enables all the other steps! Thanks!
I like putting tags before my name…
I agree, (Quote:) "This is a great tool. However, when I move my map around with the arrow keys and a portion of the map gets cut off by the window, all the Room/wall tiles are deleted when returned back on screen. This is very annoying because Im making larger map sizes. Please fix it" (Unquote, Jobac, January 10, 2018 at 23:18) This should be fixed!
I have to literally bash my head on mouse button to get rid of a single furniture. Maybe right click just doesn't work well on some browsers. It would be so much better to improve this, like left click again like the wall.
Deleting something is painful. Pls improve.
Also, the best thing for a DM every!!!!
Can you make a function to clear as in get rid of all the walls?
I just wanted to say this map editor is absolutely fantastic, at least for my purposes. I run games on roll20 and its so easy to design a map in here and match it up with the grid there. Thank you!
Also, can the middle mouse panning be changed? Some people don't have a mouse.
Being able to change the colour of the furns would be really helpful.
