ANA Map will no longer be updated
This version won’t be updated anymore. You can switch to the new RPG Map 2 which gets rid of Flash and implements many features requested by users. The source code of the original ANA Map is available on GitHub.
About the old Flash version
IMPORTANT : you need a Flash Player for this version to work. So far it has been tested on Firefox 59 and Chrome. For Chrome, you may need to click this link for it to work and choose “Allow” when asked to run flash. If nothing shows, there might be an issue with the Flash player: you should check if it’s enabled and not blocked by any third party extension.
For the last 20 years, I’ve been playing tabletop RPGs with friends on a very regular basis. I’ve spent a huge amount of time writing scenarii and missions. I did it with traditional pen & papers at first, and with Google Docs afterwards.
Problem is: it’s ok to write missions with Google Docs, until it comes to drawing the map of, say, a dungeon in Dungeon & Dragons, or a haunted house in Call of Cthulhu. Most of the dedicated tools are either:
- Old: like with a Win95 interface with almost zero attention to ergonomic
- Bloated: the tools allows EVERY single thing related to drawing a map, and therefore, is too complicated for my simple needs.
- Ugly: the tool uses lots of terrible textures where I just want to draw walls and doors.
For some times now, I’ve been using Photoshop to paint my maps. But let’s face it. It’s a great tool, but it has not been designed for that purpose. And it’s not free.
So I’ve decided to work on my own tool, with the sacred KiSS principle in mind (Keep it Short & Simple).
Hello, i wanna try it, since i have to do a map for my rpg game!
Oh no the dungeon is too big to export. any pointers?
Inspired by this tool, I've created an HTML5/Javascript alternative at mipui.net/app
Thank you for the awesome tool and for motivating me to create my own version!
I love this tool however I also have been experiencing a problem with the walls being erased when I scroll them off the screen, I have been using ferns instead of walls for the time being but it doesn't look as good and you can't really use t for the insides of buildings

This is an amazing tool for making a map. Nothing too complicated, easy to use and learn, and very helpful. Lines up perfectly with roll20's grid and now my players can control their tokens instead of me doing all the work. Yeah, a few more textures could be nice, but honestly those would just be fluff. Not complicated to add a few things yourself after saving the map. 5/5 mate
This has been amazingly helpful in my D&D campaign! Only problem I found so far is that when you scroll the map with the arrow keys the walls get erased if they scroll past the top of the screen. Makes large maps difficult to create. :(
Actually you need to use the middle mouse button to scroll instead of keyboard arrows (these one actually MOVE your map around).
Thank you so much for this wonderful tool!
The save functions don't quite seem to work for me, so I use Printscreen mainly
Add water and grass coloring please!
Ralphrius – shift-click and drag.
Not to be that guy to ask for new features, but you know what would r e a l l y make this thing great? Rectangle tool. I make number of big open maps and having to individually un-wall every single square is kind of a hassle
J'en ai cherché partout et je désespéré à trouver un tel outil, simple facile d'utilisation. Un grand merci Sébastien pour ce petit bijou pour des meneurs de jeu comme moi.
I applaud Charles for suggestion and sign behind it.
Ability to make circles/diagonals would be super useful!
yeah
I love this! Been running games for almost 30 years, best quick map program I've seen! I would gladly use it as it is for years to come, thank you.
Two requests/suggestions:
If you can do it, a mode for print that puts the grid on the rooms, but not the walls.
Higher shading difference between the walls and rooms. We use a wall screen and projector, so they blend a little on it.
I'm sorry I reloaded the page and the problem with the Zs went away!!! Might have been a glitch on my end.
I can't seem to type the letter "z" in text box. When I do the box closes. I can type a capital "Z" so it is usable. Is there any plans to fix this?
Will never use another map making tool ever again. Maybe add an option for all open spaces. (for making small towns)
Love this, simple, effective and easy to use. Could maybe use a few more assets though.
