ANA Map will no longer be updated
This version won’t be updated anymore. You can switch to the new RPG Map 2 which gets rid of Flash and implements many features requested by users. The source code of the original ANA Map is available on GitHub.
About the old Flash version
IMPORTANT : you need a Flash Player for this version to work. So far it has been tested on Firefox 59 and Chrome. For Chrome, you may need to click this link for it to work and choose “Allow” when asked to run flash. If nothing shows, there might be an issue with the Flash player: you should check if it’s enabled and not blocked by any third party extension.
For the last 20 years, I’ve been playing tabletop RPGs with friends on a very regular basis. I’ve spent a huge amount of time writing scenarii and missions. I did it with traditional pen & papers at first, and with Google Docs afterwards.
Problem is: it’s ok to write missions with Google Docs, until it comes to drawing the map of, say, a dungeon in Dungeon & Dragons, or a haunted house in Call of Cthulhu. Most of the dedicated tools are either:
- Old: like with a Win95 interface with almost zero attention to ergonomic
- Bloated: the tools allows EVERY single thing related to drawing a map, and therefore, is too complicated for my simple needs.
- Ugly: the tool uses lots of terrible textures where I just want to draw walls and doors.
For some times now, I’ve been using Photoshop to paint my maps. But let’s face it. It’s a great tool, but it has not been designed for that purpose. And it’s not free.
So I’ve decided to work on my own tool, with the sacred KiSS principle in mind (Keep it Short & Simple).
Finally! An easy map editor that does not look like garbage by giving a bunch of semi realistic looking sprites.
One thing that would making it better though is instead of having presized furniture it would be great to just be able to draw rectangles to whatever size you need. Maybe have a few colour options on the rectangles as well. Just my opinion, but I think it would greatly extend what you can accomplish with this and keep the KISS mentality.
Also have you considered making this open source to leverage the dev community?
Hi, could I make a suggestion? 45 degree walls – it'd make for a greater range of room and corridor shapes. Loving this :)
This is an amazing mapper, super simple to use and has just enough included so you want for nothing. Great find, I don't use any mapper but this one.
You rock!
This is an awesome mapper. I just stumbled upon the page and I'm glad I was lucky enough to find it.
Its Great, it will be Greater if we can import a bkg image to map on or grid it
Another problem with middle-click-and-drag is that on Windows it also seems to be getting picked up by the browser, which uses it to pan around the whole page. Really need some alternate keybinding for panning…
Hiya – absolutely loving this! When I scroll down using the arrow keys, my rooms disappear. The objects are still all there – the room just fills in with hatched lines again :(
For now, it means I can only map on the visible area. Is this something you can fix?
I suppose I should check with another browser – I am using Opera on Win10 if you want to check it out yourself.
Thank you!
The tool is certainly amazing , just adding the option of zooming out would be marvelous.
This tool has changed everything! Before, I was searching around, desperate to find a map making tool that was simple, and looked nice. Now, I can easily create all the maps I want! Thank you so much! Line tool would be nice though, so I could make better wilderness maps. Finding this was the highlight of my day!
Amazing tool, great for my D&D game.
Water tile would be a most welcome addition!
This tool is fantastic. Simple, Clean, does almost everything I want with no fuss. The only things I'd like added are custom sizes, a way to zoom out, and ways to quickly make boxes and other shapes without having to click each individual square myself. Still a fantastic tool regardless, thank you so much for making it.
This is great! Addition through subtraction! I had to re-think a few designs with size of rooms/walls, as I will move this to 3DVTT app and it has a grid tool, but the ease of use is great! I also like the export/save/print options. I hope you can add a toggle option to doors, for secret doors (ex: choose door left/right, space = door up/down, space = "S" for secret door left/right, space = "S" for secret door up/down). Thanks a bunch for an easy to use product!
I know you want to keep it simple, but is there anyway you could copy and paste the 1×1, 1×2 and 2×2 textures for furniture, make them red, and label those as either enemy or hostile?
I've only found this tool today and I'm loving it so far, I can see myself using this for my dungeon mapping. A bit of a suggestion/request is too add something other than just crates, such as chests, tables etc I think it would be a really nice feature :)
Will you ever update this? Maybe add custom furn sizes?
Hey, this is brilliant! Exactly what I was looking for and is perfectly simple to use.
Just one suggestion would be to have the ability to group areas and move them so that each time you change your dungeon to have a new room in the middle you don't have to redo the whole thing!
Please give an alternative to middle-click for panning, because many laptops don't have a way to middle-click.
Alrighty then :3 thanks a lot for your answer.
I want to make a serie of maps (lots fo them) for my future RPG Forum, what kind of permission do I need from you good sir? Thanks for your attention.
Feel free to use it for all your needs :) Just add credits somewhere?
Programmer here. This is genius. I've been using it for a few months now. I would be fantastic if we (as in we the ANAmap users) could get our hands on the source to make derivative works of it.
